UNIFORM POLICY

Rationale

In order to promote a positive learning environment, comply with the provisions of the safe and violence-free school initiative, counteract the influence of gang presence in the community, and equalize the effect of different family income levels, the School Site Council has established the following School Uniform Policy.

Policy

Students, Grades Preschool-6th, enrolled in the Fairbanks Elementary School, in the Twin Rivers Unified School District, are expected to adhere to the following Dress Code:

Tops - Students will wear white or blue tops. Pull-over, buttoned or plain white t-shirts are acceptable. No logos, other than the school's emblem, will be allowed on jackets, hats, etc.  White or navy blue sweatshirts are also acceptable. Shirts or blouses must be tucked in at all times.

Bottoms - Students will be allowed to wear navy blue shorts, jumpers, rompers, and skirts provided they are knee-length and contain no logos. Belts are to be worn at proper length within belt loops.

Blue jeans are acceptable provided they are not faded or tattered. Sweat or jogging pants are not acceptable. Saggy and/or baggy pants will not be tolerated (no more than two sizes too big).  No clothing is allowed to drag on the ground.

Shoes and Socks - Plain black shoes or plain white tennis shoes are recommended. Blue or white socks are to be worn with uniforms. Sandals are not allowed for safety reasons.

Caps, Jackets, and Rain Gear can be worn when inclement weather calls for shelter from rain, sun, wind, etc. These may include jackets, caps, sweatshirts, raincoats or outerwear of any color.

The expectation of the policy is for all students to adhere to the Dress Code. No punitive action will be imposed on students who do not comply with the standard. Parents will be encouraged to support the Uniform Policy.

The SSC will establish a sub-committee to monitor the implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of the School Uniform Policy.  The sub-committee will contain representatives from staff, parents, and student groups.
